Outdoor Spaces Made for Lake-Area Living

White Bear Lake homeowners often use their outdoor spaces in different ways throughout the year. Summer may mean grilling after a day on the lake, hosting friends before Marketfest, or relaxing outside after time at the beach. Spring and fall may call for a screened porch with more protection from wind, bugs, and cooler evenings.

A custom deck can give your home more room for dining, lounging, and entertaining. A porch enclosure can create a more comfortable place to enjoy the outdoors without feeling exposed to the weather. The right design depends on your home, your yard, and how you want to use the space.

At dREamodel, we start by learning how your household lives. We look at access points, views, traffic flow, materials, and how the finished project should connect to the home.

We received quotes from three different contractors and we could tell early on that Jon was the most knowledgeable and easiest to work with.

From start to finish the process was incredibly smooth. His showroom made it extremely easy to visualize and make choices for our 30'x16' three-season porch / deck combo.

A month later, they had all the permits, materials, and plans laid out and began construction. Thirteen business days after that, they had everything complete. I truly couldn't recommend them enough.

We are very happy with our re-deck. Darren went above and beyond. Even the city inspector gave us compliments on the job.

I cannot say enough amazing things about Jon and his team. Incredibly professional, communicated frequently to keep us informed, left the job clean every night, respected our home and were so friendly. Jon listened when we shared what we wanted to accomplish with this remodel. He never pushed us to do anything more than we planned. The craftsmanship was incredible! They got this job done in 2.5 weeks and it is beautiful. We have nothing to say on what could’ve been better. From start to finish, they were top notch. We highly recommend for all your remodel needs!

We talked with dREamodel regarding adding a 3 season sunroom to our house. Darren was extremely responsive and able to answer all of our questions. We met some of the dREamodel staff at their showroom in Maplewood and had the opportunity to see the products that would be used for our project. Very knowledgeable and customer focused. Past client references spoke highly of dREamodel, not just about the construction process but about the customer service provided. If you are considering an outdoor project for your house, reach out to Darren at dREamodel. You won’t be disappointed.

We had the pleasure of working with Darren Wagner, who truly made us feel like family rather than customers. He provided us with a wealth of information and several great options for our deck. Everyone at Dreamodel—from the office staff to the builders—was friendly, helpful, and patient throughout the entire process. We would absolutely work with them again on any future projects.

From the moment I contacted Dreamodel about our porch and deck project I was impressed. Within a few hours, a salesman, Darren, contacted me, and set up an appointment for the next morning. He appeared on time, listened to our vision for our project, took our written wish list seriously, and discussed options. He also noted a serious framing problem with our existing porch, and proposed a quick fix to bring it up to code.

The morning after we first met, Darren had produced a detailed proposal, which he then went over with me so that I understood exactly what was included. He invited us to the Dreamodel showroom which was built out with many of the products Dreamodel uses for their porch and deck projects. My husband and I were able to pick and choose among the products, quality, and materials. If something wasn't on display in the showroom, Darren found it for us. The biggest challenge was finding the right door for the porch. We wanted a double screen door from the existing screened porch to the new deck. Darren never gave up on that door, and finally found the perfect, though pricey option. We went for it and couldn't be happier.

Within a week of our first contact, we had negotiated a fixed price contract, including clearly marked estimates for specific line items like the door that might change during the course of the project. In the end, the project came in within two hundred dollars of the contract amount, and we have exactly what we wanted. The craftmanship and materials are top quality, the design is beautiful, and the process was transparent.

We were particularly impressed by several things we'd never encountered before, even though we've dealt with contractors many times in the past. First, Darren's bid was broken down into discreet subprojects such as demolition, construction of the new deck, and renovation of the existing porch, with each sub-project line item including labor and materials so we could pick and choose what we had to have and what we could do without. Second, Darren's bid was the lowest of six that we got -- in two cases, less than 35% of the highest bids -- yet there were no shortcuts, and the quality was impeccable. Third, there were no surprises. Darren stayed with the project throughout, and was always available to answer questions. He came to the job site nearly every day, and was our main point of contact throughout the project. Having the salesperson intimately involved with all phases of the project is a unique approach, and worked extremely well for us.

It is rare to choose the lowest bidder on a project, and be completely happy with the results, but that is what we experienced with Dreamodel, Darren, and the Dreamodel crew.

We had a great experience from start to finish with a deck & concrete patio. Darren was responsive, answered my questions, and delivered a great product. dREamodel does not cut corners, they do not cheap out, and they only work with individuals who they trust. Could we have possibly found a lower quote? Possibly. However, for us, it was worth the cost to go with a trusted, reliable company…especially with this investment. Totally recommend!

Darren was the catalyst that got us us interested in dREmodel for replacing our cedar deck. Without his engagement we would never had gone ahead and spent on a new composite deck. His guidance was expertly spot on. He brought his A team and they had most everything done in three hard days of work. It's a beautiful product, Dekorator brand, suggested by Darren. The Sedona color makes the black railings really stand out. Matt had to cut 23 step stringers by hand. It looks great! Love it! A couple concerns we're taken care of immediately and to my satisfaction. I am picky. Thanks Darren, Matt, John and crew for a beautiful deck, and for making my life easier. I don't have to power wash or get on my hands and knees to stain any more!.

We had a great experience with Darren and his crew. They built a deck, did stamp concrete, and got us an electrician for our hotub. The backyard has become a place of peace. We really enjoy the beauty and workmanship dREamodel provided!

Built for the Way You Gather

A deck or porch should make it easier to enjoy the moments that already happen at home. That may mean dinner outside, morning coffee, a quiet place to read, or extra room when friends and family come over. dREamodel focuses on practical layouts, durable materials, and details that make the finished space feel comfortable from the first day it is used.

Deck and Porch Planning for White Bear Lake Homes

When you plan a deck or porch for your White Bear Lake home, the setting matters. A lakeside property, wooded lot, walkable downtown home, or quiet residential street can each call for a different design approach.

If you live near Downtown, Lake Avenue, 4th Street, Matoska Park, or the historic lakeside core, your project may focus on better use of a smaller yard, walkable entertaining, or a porch that feels connected to the neighborhood. A well-planned deck or porch can add usable space without overwhelming the home or the lot.

For homes near Cottage Park, Birchwood Village, South Highland, Bald Eagle Lake, or Mahtomedi, homeowners often want spaces that feel relaxed, durable, and easy to use. That may mean a composite deck for lower maintenance, a screened porch for more seasonal comfort, or a layout that makes the backyard easier to enjoy.

Properties near Manitou Island and Dellwood may call for more refined outdoor living plans. Larger lots, lake views, mature trees, and architecturally distinct homes often need a more tailored approach. dREamodel designs decks, porch enclosures, and screened porches with those details in mind, creating spaces that fit the home, the property, and the way you want to live.

Designed Around Your Home, Yard, and View

Your deck or porch should help you enjoy the best parts of your property. For some White Bear Lake homeowners, that means a deck with space for grilling and outdoor meals. For others, it means a screened porch where you can enjoy the lake breeze with more protection from mosquitoes and changing weather.

As a porch builder and deck contractor serving White Bear Lake, dREamodel plans each project around the home’s layout, the yard, the views, and how the space will be used throughout the year.

Composite and Custom Decks in White Bear Lake

A well-designed deck can make your home feel larger, more welcoming, and better connected to the outdoors. It can create a place for summer dinners, weekend gatherings, lake-day cleanup, or a quiet evening outside.

For many White Bear Lake homeowners, a composite deck is a strong choice because it offers a polished look with lower maintenance than traditional wood. It can work well for busy households, lake-area homes, and properties where outdoor spaces see frequent use.

dREamodel designs and builds custom decks around the details that affect daily comfort. We consider stair placement, railing style, traffic flow, furniture layout, shade, views, and how the deck connects back to the home. The goal is to create a deck that feels easy to use and built for long-term value.

Screened Porches and Porch Enclosures

A porch can give your home a more comfortable connection to the outdoors. For lake-area living, that can make a big difference. A screened porch allows you to enjoy fresh air with more protection from insects, sun, rain, and cooler evenings.

A porch enclosure in White Bear Lake can also help extend how often you use an existing space. Instead of only enjoying the outdoors on perfect-weather days, you can create a more flexible area for dining, relaxing, reading, or hosting friends.

dREamodel designs screened porches and porch enclosures that feel connected to the home. We consider rooflines, window placement, flooring, natural light, airflow, and how the porch will function with nearby rooms. The finished space should feel intentional, comfortable, and useful through more of the year.

Deck Replacements and Outdoor Living Upgrades

Older decks and porches do not always match the way homeowners use their spaces today. A deck may feel too small for entertaining. Railings may block the view. Materials may require more maintenance than you want. An existing porch may feel too exposed or disconnected from the rest of the home.

dREamodel helps White Bear Lake homeowners rethink these spaces with updated layouts, composite decking, new railing systems, porch enclosures, and design improvements that make the area easier to use.

For homes near the lake, wooded streets, or active family neighborhoods, these updates can improve everyday function while making the property feel more complete.

A Design Process That Keeps Details Clear

Outdoor living projects involve more than choosing materials. The space needs to fit the home, support the way you entertain, and hold up through Minnesota weather.

dREamodel guides homeowners through design, material selection, scheduling, and construction with a process built around communication. Our team helps you think through how the deck or porch should look, how it should function, and which details will matter once the project is complete.

We work to keep the experience organized, practical, and respectful of your home.

Work With the dREamodel Team

The dREamodel team includes designers, carpenters, and project professionals who care about the finished result. We approach each project with attention to detail, clear communication, and respect for your home.

When you are planning a custom deck, porch enclosure, or screened porch, you need a team that understands both design and construction. Our goal is to create a space that looks right, works well, and feels comfortable for everyday use.

Made for Minnesota Weather and Lake-Life Use

White Bear Lake homes need outdoor spaces that can handle changing weather, frequent use, and seasonal transitions. A deck or porch should feel inviting in summer, practical in spring and fall, and durable enough for long-term performance.

Material selection, drainage, railing choices, shade, airflow, and structural planning all matter. These details become even more important for lake-area homes, wooded lots, and properties where outdoor spaces support regular entertaining.

For homeowners who want more open-air living space, dREamodel can design a composite deck built for outdoor meals, lake-day gatherings, and easy movement between the home and yard. For more comfort during buggy evenings, rainy days, or cooler months, a screened porch or porch enclosure can create a protected space that still feels connected to the outdoors.

Instead of using one standard layout, we create custom solutions that fit your home, your property, and the way you like to gather.

Frequently Asked Questions

Plan a Deck or Porch for Your White Bear Lake Home

Your home may already have the setting for a better outdoor living space. The next step is finding the right way to use it.
